Driver escapes death, as train crushes car in Lagos

Crash

A 55-year-old motorist miraculously escaped unhurt after his vehicle collided with a moving train at the PWD Railway Crossing in Lagos.

The Agege-bound train smashed into a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT driven by the survivor.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and security personnel promptly responded to the emergency.

Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the collision left the car a total write-off.

“Despite the severe impact and extensive destruction, the motorist escaped without any reported injuries, and no casualties were recorded,” Taofiq said.

Emergency responders rescued the driver and cleared the mangled car from the tracks, which enabled the train to resume its journey toward Agege.

However, the incident caused prolonged traffic congestion around the PWD corridor.

The wrecked vehicle was handed over to security agencies to investigate the cause of the crash.

The General Manager, LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the swift and coordinated emergency response. He emphasised that inter-agency collaboration remains critical to mitigating transportation disasters.

He urged motorists to strictly obey railway safety regulations and refrain from crossing tracks when trains are approaching. He also warned that reckless driving around rail corridors risks catastrophic outcomes.
