The defeat brought the curtain down on Bafana Bafana’s best-ever FIFA World Cup campaign. The side, coached by Hugo Broos, reached the knockout stage for the first time after finishing second in Group A, ahead of Nigeria, in the expanded 2026 tournament.
South Africa had impressed during the group stage, particularly with a crucial 1-0 victory over South Korea that secured qualification from a group which also included co-hosts Mexico and Czechia. However, their hopes of reaching the Round of 16 were dashed by Canada’s late winner.
The victory also marked another milestone for the co-hosts, who reached the World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in their history.
Drake has built a reputation for placing high-value sports wagers, regularly betting on NBA Finals, UFC title fights, boxing contests and major football tournaments. His latest gamble proved successful, delivering a total payout of $1,001,000 after Canada’s dramatic triumph over South Africa.
