From Charity Nwakaudu, Abuja

The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation held a handover ceremony in Abuja as Dr Emanso Okop Umobong assumed duty as the new Permanent Secretary, taking over from Mr Richard Pheelangwah.

In her remarks, Dr Umobong thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, for the confidence reposed in her. She pledged to entrench efficiency, transparency and accountability in the Ministry, while working with all departments and agencies to advance water supply, sanitation, irrigation, river-basin development and climate resilience.

Redeployed from the Cabinet Affairs Office of the OSGF, Dr Umobong said she would build on existing achievements and promote a results-driven and inclusive work culture.

Outgoing Permanent Secretary, Mr Pheelangwah, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and highlighted progress made under his tenure, including improvements in potable water access, sanitation, irrigation expansion and inter-agency collaboration. He urged staff to support his successor as he proceeds to the Ministry of Defence on redeployment.

The event was attended by senior officials, directors, agency heads and representatives of the Cabinet Affairs Office.
