The 2026 Cultural Day of Starfield College, Fagba, Lagos, was an avenue for the students and staff to showcase their different cultural identities.

The cultural day with the theme: “Celebrating our Heritage, our Diversity, our Identity” saw the pupils in their traditional attire displaying their rich culture identities, dancing steps, ways of greetings and different local foods.

Students from three invited schools, The Providence Heights Secondary School, Iju, Lagos; White Hall College, Ifako, Lagos; and the African Church Model College, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos, also displayed different traditional dances.

The celebration witnessed the introduction of a new event, Mr. and Mrs. Culture. Winners will reign for one year, become cultural ambassadors and introduced at the morning assembly to other students.

In her speech, the College Principal, Mrs. Sara Oyinloye, said with the era of globalization, students tend to forget their culture, “this why every year the college celebrates cultural day. This is to remind our students about the various cultures.”

Oyinloye advised the students not to do away with their culture, adding, “today, our students will display different traditional foods, dancing steps and exhibitions,”.

She added: “It is significant for our students to know about their cultures. There is unity in diversity. We preach unity and work together. We need our children to know how to dress, greet, dance and their type of food.

“In the lives of the students, we have taken them back to their roots, and speak their languages. This year, we introduce Mr. and Mrs. Culture and we will groom them to become ambassadors.”

Oyinloye advised government to stop doing things that do not promote unity and must strengthen unity in the country.

The highlight of the event was the inauguration of Mustapha Mahi, a JSS1 pupil as Mr. Culture (Yoruba), Gabriella Owunna (Igbo), SS11 and Darasim Aladeusi (Yoruba), both emerged as Mrs. Culture.

And also the cultural parade of major Nigerian tribes of Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Edo and Efik were displayed by the college students in their traditional costumes.
