The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun State, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, has pleaded with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), to be patient with President Bola Tinubu and not to go on strike.
The monarch made the plea at his palace in Iwoland during the 3rd edition of ‘Odun Olodumare,’ an annual festival he organized to appreciate God.
He said the traditional rulers are talking to President Tinubu and failure to heed their advice will force him to launch open criticism against his government.
“NLC should be patient so that we can have a clear head to take the country forward. We are talking to the president because we are close to our people.
“If this government does something wrong, I will be the first person to criticize the president or any governor, nobody can dethrone me, you can see that I am celebrating God who can not be dethroned.
“NLC needs to keep the president on its toes, they need to remind him of his responsibilities. Don’t strike but let him know that he must do the bidding of Nigerians.
“We know that things are tough for Nigerians, but they should know that this present government is not the one that created this hardship and that is why Nigerians need to be patient with the government of President Bola Tinubu. Let him prove himself, he has put capable hands in his government, we have seen him talking about the problems of this country eloquently, this means it is in his heart to resolve them.
“We call on God every day but today is a special day to celebrate God because he is the owner of the throne. God is the real king. We are defining the kingship stool in Yoruba land because every stool belongs to Almighty God and we the kings on earth represent this God. The clerics are the messengers of God. The kings should praise God more,” Oluwo said.
The Olofa of Ofa in Kwara state, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, who led other traditional rulers to the event, said, “If our past leaders had been removing the fuel subsidy gradually, it would not have a harsh effect the way it does now.
“I have the belief that Tinubu will improve the economy of the nation and perform more than our expectations. We need to pray for him, it is not healthy to throw abuses on him,” Olofa said.
