The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has elected Umar Doguwa as its new state chairman.
Doguwa, a former commissioner for higher education in the state, succeeds Abdullahi Abbas, whose tenure had since elapsed.
The election outcome, which was determined by consensus, was jointly announced by the chairman of the National Congress Committee of the party, Latep Debang, and the state chairman of the Congress Committee, Rabiu Bichi.
In his acceptance speech, Doguwa pledged to unify the party.

“We will work together to build a formidable party capable of delivering success at the polls and advancing the interests of our people,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf, in his remarks, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising Kano’s development and strengthening party cohesion.
He noted that the party in the state would align itself with the federal government to attract greater democratic dividends to the state.
In attendance at the congress, which took place at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, were the governor, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; party stakeholders; and about 2,430 delegates.
