Dogara decries low turnout of voters in Bauchi

Paul Orude, Bauchi

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has decried the low turnout of voters in today’s gubernatorial and state Assembly elections in Bauchi State.

Dogara made the remark while briefing newsmen immediately after he voted at his Central Primary School polling unit, Gwaranga in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The speaker attributed the low turnout of voters to the last presidential and National Assembly elections in which he claimed some of the results were tempered with at the collation centres at local government levels.

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to be fair and to respect the wishes of the electorate.

The speaker commended the people of his constituency for being peaceful during the elections and urged them to remain law abiding.

Our correspondent reports that the election was going on peacefully in all the 20 local governments areas of the state.
