The Democratic and Leadership Alliance (DLA) has faulted the extension of the 2025 budget till December 31, by the two chambers of the National Assembly.

DLA’s head of media and publicity, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, in a statement, yesterday, said the party was worried by the fact that the 2024 budget had not been fully funded till today, while close to nothing has been done on 2026 budget. Odeyemi said the party was worried because this would be the fourth time that the implementation of this same budget would be extended, adding that the Bola Tinubu-led administration has continued to fail Nigerians even in the most basic metric of governance.

According to him, the looming fiscal and economic crisis this administration has invited showed that over N35 trillion which is the capital component of 2026 budget would be moved to 2027, thereby continuing this shambolic process of running a minimum of two budgets at a time.

He called on Nigerians to ask the Tinubu administration to account for the humongous funds it received in 2025 if it could not fund the budget

“President Bola Tinubu has, at every slight opportunity, asked Nigerians to hold the state governors accountable for the huge amount accrued to them from the subsidy removal but he has not told us what he does with the larger percentage of the nation’s resources and debilitating loans he took to warrant budgets implementations suffering unprecedented extensions under his leadership.

“President Tinubu has continued to show that he lacks basic fiscal knowledge of the nation’s economy and he’s unfit to govern this country.

“His continuous stay in office beyond May 2027 will push this country closer to ruins and all of us must collectively reject such by voting him out at the polls in January.

“We have presented a better alternative to Nigerians and we believe only DLA will restore the dignity of this country and revive the ailing economic and fiscal processes,” he said.
