Not even the large crowd controller could stop the fun of the teeming audience, while some of them were enclosed with the numerous crowd controllers stationed at the venue, the rest spill over, more continues to come as the show goes on late into the night.

The show which is tagged “The Ignite Campus Rave,” is arguably the most anticipated show in University of Lagos. With popular energy drinks (Red Bull) being the headline sponsor. This year’s edition was done in collaboration with the university Student Union and DJ 6ix on June 7, 2024.

The success of a show like this is hinged on the Disc Jockey at the helm of affairs. He stands a better chance to be in the control of the show than the performing comedians, artistes, and Mcs. He is the life of the party as he would be the one to set the right temperature for the event as the performers come and go.

Eniola Onanuga who goes by the moniker DJ 6six was on stage. He was the life of the party as he dishes out songs from his highly intimidating repertoire of song collections.

Dressed in a blue tee shirt, a black pants and a white sneaker to match, he was able to accede to the request of the fans however this was sparingly as he knows what to give the audience.

Zlatan Ibile, an Afrobeats star and Zanku dance exponent performed , likewise Yemi Alade co-label mate Brainy, former YBNL star Lil Kesh and hitmaker Icee alongside more underground artiste were on hand to perform.

The neat transition from Wizkid’s “Holla at Your Boy,” a 2011 song to Asake’s “Bandana,” (2022) was seamlessly done by DJ 6ix as he takes the audience through a myriad of phases in music. The audience are mostly students in their early 20s. By the time the music and fun was too much for them, they all screamed “Dj we wanna party.” This chant and occasional shout out makes the event more lovely and fun.

Just like most Nigerian events, this particular show was behind schedule. The stage preparation, decoration, and others took time to be ready however this never stopped the fun as the fun seeker came on time. Some of them patiently waited while others went back to their various hostels with a promise to return later.

For more than six hours, DJ 6ix was on the wheel of steel. He started with some mid tempo type of sound, taking the audience to the 1980s and 1990s. Songs from Pop king Micheal Jackson, late rappers like 2pac and Notorious BIG and others were played. By the time, the party kicked off properly, DJ 6ix was more Nigerian centric with his songs rotation even when he goes out of the country, it mostly songs that featured Nigeria artiste, take for instance, songs like “Tonight,” by R2Bees and Wizkid. The remix of “Number One,” by Tanzanian music legend Diamond Platnumz and Davido not forgetting “Jerusalem,” remix which features Burna Boy.

The musical artistes lined up for this event might have been popular or more notable than DJ 6ix, nevertheless this young man was able to give a good account of himself, his skillful song transition and mixing made him the darling of the audience. It just shows the level of hard work and foresight he expended on his craft. If continue like this, he would gladly join DJ JimmyJatt, DJ Spin all and more in the Nigerian DJs Hall of Fame.
