The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Olufunmilola Disu, has urged women to embrace skills development and emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), as pathways to economic empowerment and self-reliance.
Disu made the call during a visit to the POWA Skill Acquisition Centre at Dei-Dei Barracks, Abuja, where she interacted with trainees, instructors and management staff across the various departments of the institution.
During a tour of the centre’s facilities, she visited training sections, including Adult Education, Baking and Confectionery, Tailoring, Hairdressing, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), commending participants for their commitment to learning and personal development.
Addressing the trainees, the POWA President stressed the importance of acquiring practical and relevant skills in today’s rapidly evolving world, noting that vocational training and digital literacy remain critical tools for achieving financial independence and long-term success.
She particularly encouraged participants to explore the opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence and other digital technologies, describing them as indispensable tools capable of enhancing productivity, creativity and innovation across various professions and business ventures.

Disu also held discussions with the management and staff of the centre to assess its operational needs and identify areas requiring improvement.
Reaffirming her commitment to the growth of the institution, she pledged support for improved staff welfare, as well as the maintenance and upgrade of facilities to create a more conducive environment for learning and skills development.
She noted that empowering women with practical skills, knowledge and access to technology remains central to POWA’s vision of building stronger families and more resilient communities within the police ecosystem.
According to her, the visit reflects the association’s continued commitment to promoting education, innovation and sustainable economic empowerment among members of the police community.
