Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been dragged to the court for ‘illegal’ dissolution of the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Civil Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission, and House of Assembly Service Commission.
Adeleke had dissolved the boards and subsequently appointed another member who were confirmed by the House of Assembly on Monday.
The plaintiffs, Olusegun Oladitan (OSSIEC), Babafemi Olatunji (Civil Service Commission), Adebayo Waliyu (Judicial Service Commission), and Awolola Abiodun (House of Assembly Service Commission), approached the National Industrial Court, describing the dissolution of statutory boards constituted by former governor Adegboyega Oyetola as ‘illegal.’
A suit obtained by Daily Sun dated November 13 and filed before the Ibadan division of the Industrial Court, prayed the court to declare as ‘illegal, ultra vires and unconstitutional,’ the dissolution of the boards occupied by the plaintiffs.
Counsels to the plaintiffs led by Kunle Adegoke SAN, prayed the court to compel the government and its agents to reinstate the boards to complete its five-year tenure.
While three board Chairmen and members urged the court to order the defendants to pay their salaries and emoluments from November 2023 till the expiration of their tenure and also demanded damages to the tune of N500million, the OSIEC board chairman and members urged the court to declare refusal to pay their salary and emoluments from November 2022 as illegal.
Joined as defendants in the originating summons are the governor of Osun state, the Attorney-General, and Commissioner for Justice in the state, the Commissioner for Finance, and the Osun State House of Assembly.
