Edo-Assembly

From Tony Osauzo, Benin

Scare from the discovery of bullets and gunshot holes at the roof of the Edo State House of Assembly, yesterday, stalled the first sitting of the Assembly this year.

The discovery caused unease among members who arrived the Chambers of the Assembly for the business of the day.

The majority Leader of the House, Hon. Jonathan Ebamewu, who briefed journalists, said the incident is being investigated by security agency and sitting has been postponed till further notice.

“We were ready for sitting today and our attention was called to the fact that there was an incident here so I have to call the Commissioner of Police and the DSS and we have left everything to them to investigate and to give us a complete report as to what gave rise to what we are talking about.

“For now, everything is fine and we are eager and ready to start our sitting today but unfortunately because of the incident we might not be able to meet today because we want to give the chambers to security agents to comb it properly and for them to give a report that will be satisfactory to everybody”.

“However, be rest assured that everything is calm in the House and we are not distracted, we will certainly come back to do our normal routine sitting”, Ebamewu added.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Edo State Police Command were seen combing the Assembly Chambers yesterday.
