Sylva-and-Diri

Governor Douye Diri and Timipre Sylva over the weekend campaigned in their home local governments amid a mammoth crowd of party supporters.

While Diri campaigned in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government where he and his deputy bagged chieftaincy  titles of Olotu Kpekpe 1(the one and only champion) and Kuro Okpo 1(strong one) respectively, Sylva campaigned in Brass Local Government Area.

Both campaigns were turned into a carnival of sort as the people and party members turned out to welcome their sons.

Diri who spoke at massive rallies in Odi, Opokuma and Sabagreia,  said he was not in Kolokuma /Opokuma to campaign but to thank the people for their support over the years and expressed confidence that on November 11, they will vote overwhelmingly for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He equally implored people of the area to maintain the peace before, during and after the election and assured them of more developmental projects.

His words: “We are not in Kolokuma/Opokuma to campaign. We came to greet our people and spend time with them.

“We thank you for your support over the years and we promise not to let you down. We are also confident that you will continue to support us.

“For our traditional rulers, I have been saying that the traditional institution must not be involved in politics. You can receive and pray for anybody but you should not go beyond that. Traditional rulers should not be partisan.”

Speaking on behalf of the KOLGA Council of Chiefs, King Agara, who is the chairman, described the duo as blessings to people of the area and that they have felt the positive impact of their leadership.

The monarchs prayed and wished the governor and his deputy well as they go into the governorship election on November 11.

In  Akassa, Brass Local Government Area, the Council of Chiefs pleaded with Sylva to embark on shore protection of Sangana, Fish Town, and Otuo communities, construction of concrete roads, provision of electricity and some job slots in the Tantita Security Services if he is elected.

HRH Theophilus Moses ( Kenibara VII), Amadabo of Moko-Ama commended Sylva for the empowerment of some sons from the kingdom during his time as governor and expressed his appreciation for the construction of the Abadibo and Tuborodoh link bridge and some internal roads he constructed in the kingdom during his first stint as governor.

He highlighted some nagging challenges facing the kingdom particularly the problem of ocean encroachment which he said is threatening to make the kingdom go into extinction and appealed to the APC candidate to look into them when he gets sworn into office on the 14th of February 2024.

Sylva in his response assured the people of Sangana of human capital development and infrastructural development, empowerment and the utilization of the abundance of gas resources for power generation and job creation.

He also promised to collaborate with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to tackle the problem of ocean encroachment when elected into office as the governor of Bayelsa State.
