Governors of Bayelsa, Douye Diri and Benue, Samuel Ortom, as well as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, are some of the dignitaries expected at the 7th Anniversary Lecture/Niger Delta Awards 2022, slated for August 30th in Abuja.
According to a statement by Publisher/CEO, Jacob Abai, the anniversary celebration/lecture which has as its central theme: “Oil politics, securing national assets, dependency and diversification”, has Sylva, as the key note speaker while the governors of Bayelsa and Benue as well as Group Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari, are the special guests of honour.
The 2023 Social Democratic Party, SDP, Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, will Chair the event, while Deputy Governor of Delta State, Kingsley Otuaro, will be the Chief Host.
Others expected include: Interim Administrator, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Efiong Akwa, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Simbi Wabote, Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe, and Chairman/Managing Director, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Richard Kennedy.
Also expected at the lecture/award giving ceremony include traditional rulers from the Niger Delta, captain of industries within and outside the country, executives of International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in the country, public office holders from the Niger Delta region, leaders of specialized groups in Nigeria, among others.
According to Abai, “The anniversary lecture will centre on critical new research themes as sustainable development goals in the Niger Delta. Its deliberations will address all spectra of analyses including the oil and gas industry.
“The present edition is the 7th in the series and second to be hosted at the Abuja Transcorp Hilton, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The first was in the year 2015. Other venues that have in the past played host to this prestigious event are; Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, Rivers States, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos respectively.
“The GbaramotuVoice annual lecture has a rich history of promoting national unity, recognizing the good works of various individuals that have positively imprinted their names in various areas of human endeavors while contributing to the life chances of humanity.”
He explained that GbaramatuVoice, established in 2015, has grown into a global multi-media organization with newspapers, websites, and apps serving millions of readers around the world as an important media in the Niger Delta. The newspaper shoulders an even more significant responsibility as it continues its quest to serve as a bridge between Niger Delta communities and the rest of the world.
He said the list of eminent Awardees made up of Nigerians and Non Nigerians drawn from different sectors of human endeavours through rigorous but transparent process shall be made known to the general public in due course.
