The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has appointed popular gospel musician Asu Ekiye as an Ambassador of the Ijaw language.

Diri made this known in a Facebook post on Monday after attending the launch of Ekiye’s concert and the launch of his new album, “Ebikamo Experience”, in Yenagoa on Sunday.

On the occasion also attended by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice (Mrs.) Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, the governor congratulated Ekiye for his steadfastness and consistency on the music stage and for promoting Izon language through his music across the globe over the years.

Diri added, “I challenged everyone, particularly parents, to teach their children our language and urged them to join hands with the Prosperity Government in our drive to preserve the Ijaw language from extinction.

“I am happy with his success story of the Gospel Musician singing in Ijaw and I have, therefore, appointed Asu Ekiye, as an Ambassador of the Ijaw language.

“I must confess that I had a great time at the colorful event watching the live performance of Asu Ekiye and De Nu Dimension band for the first time.

“I enjoyed a number of his popular tunes.

“Once again, congratulations to Ijaw global music icon and homeboy, Asu Ekiye.”
