Dickson Okechukwu: The innovator building the future, one smart community at a time

In 2009, a young undergraduate named Dickson Cliff Okechukwu arrived at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, filled with dreams and excitement.

But soon, he faced a frustrating reality — finding basic goods and services in his new environment was a daily struggle. This challenge would ignite a vision that would later transform into one of Nigeria’s most innovative community tech platforms, Vicilook.

His first attempt at solving this problem came in the form of Naija Campus Trades, a simple static website he designed and hosted himself. Local businesses paid just ₦800 per month to be listed, and the project quickly became a useful resource for students.

This early success gave him the confidence to push further, rebranding to TASWAC (dynamic directory website) and later Wiidin as his idea expanded beyond the campus.

Okechukwu’s company, Epignoxis Technology Nig. Ltd (RC1180857), began attracting clients far beyond student life. He created a web system for Ifesinachi Transport Company that impressed the management so much they gave him free office space inside UNN.

He also developed the Campus Tariff Plan for Globacom, offering unique mobile plans for students and staff across Nigerian institutions.
By 2019, his vision had grown too big for a student-focused directory. He rebranded to Vicilook Technologies Limited(RC8367977) — a platform designed to turn ordinary communities into smart cities by connecting people, businesses, institutions, and governments through verified, real-time local data.

Vicilook’s reach is vast. VICILOOK PLACES helps people find and connect with local businesses, while VICINITY UPDATES allows instant broadcasting of community news — a tool embraced by traders at Eke Awka Market. For farmers and job seekers, VICILOOK MARKETS, FARMERS MARKET, and JOBS provide direct access to opportunities. Property listings, emergency updates, and governance data also live on the platform.

One of its most engaging innovations is VICILOOK POST UPDATE, a feature that empowers users to post updates in their current communities and also follow these communities to receive live updates from other residents or even government authorities.

Whether it’s a missing person alert, a road repair notice, a festival announcement, or a simple “good morning” from a neighbor, the feature fosters real-time communication and a sense of shared belonging.

Education has been a cornerstone of Vicilook’s growth. Tools like CAMPUS XPLORER, ACADEMIC OFFICE, and YEARBOOK have been adopted by institutions such as Nwafor Orizu College of Education (NOCEN) and Paul University for teaching, alumni networking, and student engagement. Cultural initiatives like the DICDAL religious directory and arts promotion have connected churches, artists, and cultural groups to their communities.
Safety and trust are equally important.

Through PRODUCT SECURITY, companies like Visa Petroleum and Chrizza Peanut Burger verify the authenticity of their goods. The LAWYERZ directory connects people to legal support. Vicilook’s sustainability efforts include flood evacuation alerts and urban planning data for better community resilience.

The impact hasn’t gone unnoticed. Okechukwu was invited by the Anambra State Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture to speak to hospitality business owners, demonstrating Vicilook’s VR tool for hotels and restaurants. Internationally, Vicilook earned a place in the IT History Society’s Global Database in Silicon Valley — a recognition given to historically significant tech innovations.

Beyond business, Dickson is a perfectionist with a deep love for tech, science, space, architecture, and art. He’s a family man, a committed Christian, and a proud son of Ozubulu, Anambra State. He celebrates his birthday on September 24, a date he calls “a special tech day.”

From a frustrated student in Nsukka to the founder of a globally recognized platform, Okechukwu’s journey is proof that local problems, when solved with passion and vision, can have a global impact.
