After Budapest 2023 World Championships setbacks, World Record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and World Silver Medalist in the Long Jump, Ese Brume, have another opportunity to end their athletics season with a historic win.
The duo today at the Hayward Field in Eugene, aim to end their seasons on high with Amusan defending her title in100m hurdles, while Brume is in her first ever Diamond League.
Just over a year ago in Eugene, Amusan set a World Record and won the women’s 100m Hurdles title, becoming the first Nigerian World champion.
Brume on her part, leapt to Silver in the women’s Long Jump, icing the cake on what was a spectacular Day for Nigerian Athletics.
Meanwhile, Amusan has dropped eight places from 25th to 33rd best in the women’s overall weekly rankings released by World Athletics.
The Nigerian, ranked the fifth best in the world at the start of the year and number one in her event following her triumph and world record run at the World Athletics Championships last year has also slipped from second to third in the high hurdles.
Brume is still ranked 150th best in the world and number four in the long jump event.
The 27 year old will be seeking her first Diamond Trophy in her debut in the final of the event in Oregon and could move up to second in the event ranking if she wins.
