…thanks Tinubu for opportunity to serve
The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has recorded 38 milestones in three years under its Director-General, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, with strides in renewable energy, solar power, clean cooking and hydrogen technology.
Abdullahi, who disclosed this during a third-anniversary celebration at the Commission’s headquarters, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and his support under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also commended the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, for his guidance and partnership in advancing Nigeria’s energy sector.
The ECN boss attributed the achievements to the collective efforts of the Commission’s management and staff, pledging to sustain the momentum and deliver more benefits to Nigerians.
Among the major milestones are the gazetting of the National Energy Policy and National Energy Master Plan, solarisation of healthcare and educational facilities, expansion of mini-grids, promotion of clean cooking and development of hydrogen technology.
A major highlight is the establishment of Africa’s first Barefoot Renewable Energy College in Osara, Kogi State, to build local capacity and equip Nigerians with practical skills for renewable energy development.
The Commission has also intensified efforts to boost local energy manufacturing and strengthen international partnerships to accelerate technology transfer and innovation.
Abdullahi said the initiatives were designed to improve electricity access, empower underserved communities and support sustainable economic growth.
Beyond energy development, he highlighted improvements in staff welfare, conditions of service and internal infrastructure, describing them as critical to enhancing productivity and institutional efficiency.
The Director-General, who was visibly touched by the surprise reception organised in his honour, thanked staff members for their goodwill, gifts and commendations.9 pp
He, however, acknowledged that more work remained to be done, promising to consolidate existing achievements, improve staff welfare and strengthen the Commission’s capacity to fulfil its mandate.
Abdullahi reaffirmed his commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leading force in renewable energy innovation, stressing that policies and technological advances must translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
The achievements come amid efforts to diversify Nigeria’s energy mix, expand electricity access and promote cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.
