Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, on Friday, November 21, 2025, gave President Bola Tinubu a comprehensive briefing on the worsening security situation across the country, which has recently seen a surge in kidnappings of school children and violent attacks.
Ajayi’s update came against the backdrop of the recent abduction of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State, where gunmen launched a deadly pre-dawn raid killing the vice principal and abducting the girls amidst a shootout with security forces.

Among the grave incidents was the mass abduction and attack at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, on November 18. Gunmen stormed the church during an evening fellowship, killing three worshippers and abducting at least 38 members, including Pastor Solomon Abdulahi. The youngest victim is seven years old and the oldest 64, with 30 of those kidnapped being women. The attackers, suspected Fulani ethnic militia, reportedly arrived on motorbikes, causing panic and chaos in the community.

In consideration of these escalating security challenges, President Tinubu canceled his planned trip to South Africa to attend the global G20 summit. The president instead chosed to remain in Nigeria to personally coordinate national security efforts with the DSS and other agencies. Vice President Kashim Shettima was delegated to represent Nigeria at the G20 gathering.
