Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has described Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as destiny delayed but not denied.

Keyamo stated this in an X post on Tuesday.

On Monday, the governor’s media aide, Nuhu Anka, confirmed his principal’s move.

He said the governor’s defection was in the overriding interest of stability, progress, and sustainable development of Zamfara, and followed engagements with party leaders, elders and supporters in the state.

In his reaction, Keyamo said the governor’s defection was a “triumphal entry to the progressive family”.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) recounted how Lawal was pushed out of the APC after losing the governorship ticket of the party in 2019 only to contest on the PDP platform and win in 2023.

Keyamo said, “Before, I wholeheartedly welcome my brother and my bosom friend, Gov. of Zamfara State, H.E Dauda Lawal to the APC family, let me tell a short story he may not be in a position to say himself:

“In the run-up to the 2019 elections, Dauda Lawal was in the APC and we (his friends) did ‘EVERYTHING POSSIBLE’ to just secure the ticket for him to run as our candidate for the position of Governor of Zamfara State on the platform of the APC.

“He was cruelly denied that ticket and unjustly persecuted by rivals. We also rallied behind him to stop those persecutions. His rivals then fought themselves to stupor and we lost all our seats in Zamfara.

“In 2023, he then quietly left to the PDP, secured the ticket and resoundingly won the gubernatorial election.

“Today, he makes a triumphal return to the progressive family AS A SITTING GOVERNOR and leader of the Party in Zamfara State.

“Destiny can be delayed, but not denied.

“Welcome back home H.E, Governor Dauda Lawal.”
