Striker Cyriel Dessers has been ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations, forcing him to return to his club after a thigh injury curtailed his tournament campaign.
The Panathinaikos FC star has had to leave Morocco back to Greece where he is expected to begin treatment and rehabilitation.
Defender Ryan Alebiosu was present at training but did not participate as he continues to recover from a leg injury, while midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi missed the session due to a cold.
The setback comes as Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle urged the squad to put their group-stage victories behind them and fully concentrate on their upcoming knockout clash against Mozambique. Speaking at camp, Chelle emphasized that past successes will count for little if the players do not maintain focus and intensity in the high-stakes knockout phase.
Addressing the team at camp, Chelle stressed that the knockout phase presents a fresh challenge, warning that previous victories will count for nothing if the players fail to maintain focus and intensity. He called on the squad to approach the Mozambique tie with discipline and determination.
Despite the setbacks, Chelle remains confident in the depth of his squad and has challenged the players available to step up as the Super Eagles prepare for a decisive showdown against Mozambique in the knockout stage.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was a delight to watch in training as he scored a goal as confirmed by the team’s media officer.
