Deputy Senate President, Barau hails Senator Adeola’s empowerment of constituents

The Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, has commended the senator representing Ogun West senatorial district, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, for espousing dividends of democracy by extending economic empowerment to thousands of his constituents.

Barau gave the commendation on Monday during a mega empowerment programme held inside the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

At the programme, no fewer than 15,000 constituents trained in various vocations were given equipment and start-up capital.

Senator Adeola had earlier organized a scholarship and bursary scheme for 1,600 indigent students of tertiary institutions, while 5,000 traders were also empowered with financial grants in Ogun West.

Speaking further at the event on Monday, Barau described the empowerment scheme as a show of true love by Adeola towards his people.

According to the deputy senate president, the senator has always shown concerns about the plight of the people of Ogun West.

He urged the people to continue to support the ruling party, saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was working assiduously to ensure Nigerians experience good governance.

“Our President is working hard together with us to ensure things are better in this country, we are trying to correct those wrongs, to reshape the economy, polity and entire system,” Barau stated.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Adeola explained that the mega empowerment programme was designed to renew the hope of the people.

The lawmaker stated that it was important to provide much needed start-up grants, various empowerment equipment for selected constituents.

Adeola, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, noted that about 12,000 beneficiaries would be going home with requisite equipment worth over N2bn while others would also get a start-up grant in cash ranging from N80,000 to N150,000 totally over N1bn.

“The target is for gainfully self-employment for youths and women irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliations in Ogun West.

“It is my hope that many of the beneficiaries would soon be in the business of producing locally made goods and services at the level of micro, small and medium enterprises.

“Let me state that beneficiaries of these training programmes and empowerment were selected devoid of any partisan considerations.

“Major stakeholders were given opportunities to nominate beneficiaries as deemed fit,” he said.

The senator disclosed that some government institutions would also benefit from the empowerment programmes in order to enhance their capacity to continue to render timely and good service to the people.

“Some of these equipment include ambulances, security patrol vans, agro tractors, mini buses and tricycles”, he added.

Adeola, however, promised to continue to be a good representative of his constituents.
