The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has been commended for his efforts in mobilising South East extraction in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to strongly support the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded FCT Area Councils election.
Kalu, who served as the Secretary of the APC Campaign Council for the election, had made a passionate appeal to the South East residents in the FCT to massively vote for the party’s candidates.
The APC group, under the auspices of Integrity Group, showered encomiums on the Deputy Speaker and argued that the response to his appeal was the tonic for the impressive turnout, which contributed significantly to the party’s victory in five out of the six Area Councils.
“We sincerely appreciate the South East residents in the FCT for standing with the Deputy Speaker and supporting APC candidates during the election. Their solidarity and participation played a vital role in the successes recorded by the party,” the statement from the group, jointly signed by Ardo Zubariu, National Coordinator, and Chinsom Nwakanma, National Secretary, read.
They also used the opportunity to highlight the leadership profile and achievements of Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, describing him as one of the most influential voices in South East national politics.

“A lawyer, policy advocate and experienced legislator, he has distinguished himself through effective parliamentary leadership and commitment to national unity and inclusive governance.
“Since assuming office as Deputy Speaker, Kalu has played a key role in promoting legislative reforms, strengthening democratic institutions and supporting policies aimed at economic growth and national development. He has also been actively involved in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation and greater national integration,” the group extolled his virtues in the statement.
The APC group further noted that Kalu’s growing national stature and strategic position in government have provided increased political visibility and representation for the South East region.
“Hon Kalu has demonstrated capacity, competence and commitment to national service. His leadership continues to open new opportunities for the South East within the national political space,” the group noted.
While urging Southeast residents in the FCT and across the country to continue supporting him, they stressed that sustained backing for credible leaders from the region will strengthen the zone’s voice in national affairs.
“We believe that unity and strategic engagement with leaders such as Hon Benjamin Kalu will further enhance the political relevance of the South East and attract greater developmental opportunities for the region,” the statement added.
