Delta police impound 21 vehicles for traffic offences

The Delta State Police Command has impounded 21 vehicles for various traffic offences during an intelligence-led enforcement operation carried out in Abraka and Ozoro as part of efforts to restore order on the roads and enhance public safety across the state.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement, saying the operation forms part of the command’s sustained commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and strengthening security.

According to him, on July 21, 2026, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations led a team of command operatives on an enforcement patrol targeting traffic violations and other related offences in the two communities.

Edafe said a total of 21 vehicles were impounded for offences including failure to display registration number plates, use of covered number plates, and possession of expired vehicle particulars.

He noted that all the affected vehicles would undergo the necessary legal and administrative procedures in line with extant laws.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, stressed that vehicles operating without proper identification or valid documentation constitute serious security threats, as they can easily be exploited by criminal elements to perpetrate unlawful activities.

He, therefore, urged motorists to ensure strict compliance with all traffic regulations and vehicle registration requirements, warning that the command would sustain its intelligence-led enforcement operations across the state.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to promoting public safety, strengthening security, and ensuring full compliance with traffic and vehicle registration laws through continuous enforcement exercises.
