Police operatives in Delta State, have arrested sixteen persons over the Tuesday’s violent protest by irate youths against EFCC’S (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) arrest of internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘yahoo boys’ in Ughelli council area.
Recall that there was commotion at the Otowodo junction of the East West road in Ughelli on Tuesday after three persons were reportedly shot by security personnel drafted to the scene of protest by some youths. Of the three victims, one dead instantly while the others sustained various degree of injuries.
Following the ensuing pandemonium, the youths who were protesting alleged harassment by officials of the anti-graft agency, were said to have burned about twelve heavy duty truck including those laden with petroleum products caught on traffic jam during the wide-protest.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ari Mohammed Ali who visited the scene Wednesday, told newsmen after an on the spot assessment of damages done, said that sixteen persons are in police custody in connection to the mayhem.
He warned youths against taking laws into their hands, urging them to shun violence.

Meanwhile, the Ughelli North Local Government council has imposed a dawn to dusk (6pm-6am) curfew on the metropolis.
