The Delta State Police Command has arrested one person in connection with the alleged murder of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education.
Adeda reportedly died following an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba.
The police said it had taken note of allegations that the deceased was allegedly beaten by aides to the commissioner identified as Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement that the police swung into action immediately after receiving complaints over the incident.
Edafe said one of the suspects, Lucky Adoh, had been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend the other two suspects.
He said: “Upon receipt of the complaints, the police immediately swung into action and arrested one of the suspects, Lucky Adoh, while serious manhunt for the other suspects is ongoing.”
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel Erale, has ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent death of the deceased.
He said the investigation would examine all available evidence, including relevant video footage, eyewitness accounts, medical records and the actions of all persons connected with the incident, in order to establish the facts and determine whether anyone was culpable.

The police spokesman said the Commissioner of Police had assured the family of the deceased, concerned citizens and members of the public that the command would neither shield nor spare anyone found culpable, irrespective of status or position.
He added that the investigation would be conducted professionally, transparently and without interference.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from drawing conclusions until the facts surrounding the incident had been fully established.
The Commissioner of Police condoled with the family of the deceased, assuring them that justice would be pursued diligently and without fear or favour.
