Delta government launches 2024 beauty pageant in Asaba

The government of Delta State has launched the 2024 Beauty Pageant in Asaba.

This was contained in a statement through the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Entertainment, Komone Chubbo Godwin, who said the girl child should be protected.

Komone stated this when briefing journalists on the activity to mark the Delta Queen Beauty Pageant tagged “Delta @ 33”, adding that over the years, the girl child was not being taken seriously in some part of the world.

According to him, on their own, the female gender is not given enough attention and promotions as it ought to be.

“We have a governor who is very sensitive because in Delta state we have not done enough in the favour of girl child, this time Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has decided that it’s time to honour and promote the girl child”.

“To encourage the girl child, we have been instructed to put up a beauty pageant to produce a queen for the next eight years in Delta state”, he said.

The Executive Assistant noted that it is not just to produce a queen but a queen who will win a star prize for the state and compete with other queens in the world.

“We will be going round the twenty-five Local Government Areas in the state starting from October 21, 2024, to search for queens from the age of eighteen and above and it has been grouped into five locations, Warri, Asaba, Ozoro, Ughelli and Sapele, where the audition will take place.

Komone disclosed that they will be lodged in Queens View where the beauty pageant will see lives and beyond, adding that the idea is not just to win prize but to get experience and expose to certain things.

“We need a figure that will represent the state correctly worldwide, stating that within the two weeks, the ten best will be selected to showcase their intelligence and culture.”

He emphasized that character, content, good representation of culture and being able to speak her local dialect will be looked into. He also noted that the competition is mainly for Delta indigenes and the form is free.

“Professionals will engage them in training on how to speak, behave and relate for the period of two weeks, ten of them will be selected for the finals on November 26, 2024, in Asaba.

“This opportunity will sell Delta more to the world.”

He said the Star prize award comes in categories and that the best will go home with an SUV car and the sum of N1.5m, second person N3 million and the third N2 million.
