A supplementary budget of N167 billion for the current fiscal year in Delta State was on Wednesday approved by the State Executive Council.

The council which met for the first time under the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, also approved N10 billion as social investment/palliative funds to be disbursed directly to residents.

It would be recalled that the immediate past governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa had at the twilight of his administration in May this year, signed a Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N71 billion after the bill was passed by the state House of Assembly.

Briefing journalists on the outcome of Wednesday’s meeting presided over by Governor Oborevwori, Commissioner for Works (Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, said both approvals would be forwarded to the House for ratification.

Izeze who spoke alongside his Economic Planning counterpart, Sonny Akporokiamo Ekedayen, listed a number of roads across the three senatorial districts that were also approved for construction or rehabilitation.

Izeze said the latest supplementary budget was necessitated by positive economic outlook, saying that allocation to the state from the federation account has significantly improved.

He added that the state has also substantially improved on it’s internally generated revenue.

According to him, the N10 palliative fund was part of measures to cushion the impact of the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
