Delta: 3 ‘free readers’ die in newspaper stand crash

At least three victims lost their lives after a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) crashed into a newspaper stand at Iyara roundabout in Warri, Delta State.

The victims were said to have clustered at a newspaper stand to glance through the dailies when a jeep suddenly crashed on them over the weekend.

The white colour Range Rover jeep was marked with vehicle registration number Delta EFR 940.

It was learnt that three newspaper readers fondly called ‘free readers’ were crashed by the jeep and died instantly.

One was severely injured in the process and is still being hospitalised.

Witnesses said the driver of the car was trying to negotiate a bend at the roundabout at top speed when he lost control of the car and crashed it on the newsstand.

While the driver of the car was badly hurt, two female acquaintances inside the car came out unhurt.

Local sources disclosed that the driver and other victims were reportedly rushed to an undisclosed hospital afterward some policemen came to the scene to take inventory.

Police spokesperson DSP Bright Edafe did not respond to calls to confirm the report as of press time.
