From Sola Ojo, Kaduna

Following the recent publication of ‘fake’ and ‘illegal’ institutions by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Rector of the Kaduna Business School (KBS) Dr. Dahiru Sani over the weekend replied the commission, demanded delist from its publication because the school was duly registered and does not offer any graduate or postgraduate degree programme.

According to him, NUC listed the school among its so-called fake institutions for the second time even after it admitted to correcting the error after being formerly contacted after the first publication around 2018.

He further stated that the school, apart from not offering degree or post-graduate programmes, does not also serve as affiliation to any university in that capacity.

“Why would NUC continue to list the KBS as a fake institution after the commission did so in 2018 and a formal letter of complaint was written in which the commission replied accordingly with an assurance not to list the School as an illegal institution any longer?

“It is inexcusable for a national regulatory agency like NUC to rush to conclusion and make a very questionable judgment on an issue of such great importance without empirical research, verifiable facts, or authenticated proof in an exercise that clearly lacks intellectual depth”, he queried.

He added that the regulating body for Management Development Institutions (MDI) in Nigeria is the Centre for Management Development (CMD), on the authority of the National Council for Management Development under which he said the KBS is duly accredited.

He said, “as a part of the reform initiatives of the Federal Ministry of Education to improve access to tertiary education and boost self-employment the Federal Government approved the creation of Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs) and Innovation Enterprise Institutions (IEIs) to provide an alternative route to higher education”.

“So KBS was licensed as an IEI offering the National Innovation Diploma (NID) in Banking Operations”.

The Rector however called on the public to disregard the KBS being listed among illegal institutions, just as he called on the NUC to delist the institution from such list going forward or will be left with no option but to seek legal redress.
