Dekunle Okunrinboye, an entrepreneur and executive chairman of DK Industries Group has shared the story on how he has been inculcating entrepreneurship into his life since his early years.
Okunrinboye narrated how his family instilled a passion for entrepreneurship in him, which led to his success as a business owner today.
Okunrinboye recalled how he and his siblings would pluck fruits from the trees in their father’s school and sell them to visitors. He also mentioned how he would market his wristwatch sales to his schoolmates while in boarding school. These early experiences shaped his business mindset and served as a foundation for his future endeavors.
Okunrinboye’s father, a successful businessman, also played a vital role in shaping his son’s entrepreneurial spirit. He recalled how his father’s commitment to his businesses and time management skills served as an inspiration to him.
When it was time to start his own business, Okunrinboye faced a unique challenge of funding. At that time, whenever he needed money from home he would normally write a proposal, go through a budget debate and consult with the accountant to receive payment. So he knew applying for a loan to fund his business idea while still in school would be futile and regarded as distraction from his studies. Despite this hurdle, Okunrinboye persisted and found alternative ways to finance his business ideas.
While in university, Okunrinboye made money organizing events, leasing short-let apartments, and selling customized sandals. However, the profit from these ventures was not enough to fund his larger business idea. Therefore, he began loaning money to other students using his school fees as collateral. This move proved successful, and he was able to accumulate enough funds to start his business and invest in stocks.
Okunrinboye’s story serves as a testament to the power of hard work, determination, and passion for entrepreneurship. He hopes to inspire others to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and use their experiences as a foundation for their success.
