The Ministry of Defence has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), is planning to resign from office, describing the claims as false and malicious.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, said the ministry’s attention had been drawn to fabricated reports alleging that General Musa intended to step down from his position.
She said the reports were entirely baseless and urged Nigerians to disregard them.
“The attention of the Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence has been drawn to a malicious and entirely fabricated rumour circulating across various online and social media platforms alleging that the Honourable Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has expressed an intention to step down from his position,” the statement said.

The ministry stressed that the rumour was “absolute falsehood borne out of complete mischief,” insisting that the minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities.
According to the statement, General Musa is focused on advancing Nigeria’s defence strategy and delivering on the country’s national security objectives.
The ministry also urged members of the public to ignore the false reports while cautioning media organisations and social media users against spreading unverified information.
It advised those seeking information about the minister or the ministry to verify facts through official channels before publishing or sharing such reports.
