The Defence Headquarters has confirmed an attempted cyberattack on its official X account, warning the public against relying on any suspicious content published from the handle.
The disclosure was made on Saturday in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, who said the incident was being handled as a cybersecurity matter.
According to Uba, technical measures had been activated to secure the account and block further unauthorised access, while efforts were continuing to regain full control of the platform.

The DHQ advised members of the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any unauthorised or misleading posts that might appear on the account while the recovery process continues.
The military authorities said the incident would not affect their commitment to providing Nigerians with accurate and timely information on the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The DHQ also urged Nigerians seeking official updates to use its verified accounts on other platforms, including Facebook under the name Defence Headquarters Nigeria, Instagram at @defenceheadquarters and its WhatsApp Channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria.
