Immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom has described the death of the presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Port-Harcourt Division, Justice Joseph Ikyegh, as a huge and painful loss to the country.

Chief Ortom stated this in a press statement signed by his Media Aide, Terver Akase and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Saturday.

Ortom described Ikyegh as a distinguished Justice who was known for his sound judgments, forthrightness, and commitment to the rule of law.

He stated that the late Benue-born jurist made outstanding contributions to the administration of justice and will be remembered for fairness, integrity, and excellence in jurisprudence, the very attributes he said earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues and other members of the public.

The former Governor pointed out that it was in recognition of Justice Ikyegh’s exemplary service to the nation and judicial acumen that he was recently shortlisted as one of the 22 Justices of the Court of Appeal for promotion to the Supreme Court.

Chief Ortom expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Ikyegh family and prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
