The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a total of ₦653,987,268.50 worth of undisclosed currencies from one Ghanaian passport holder, Ahmed Salisu, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.

Speaking on Tuesday, July 8, at the handover of the currencies to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Bompai headquarters of the NCS in the state, the Comptroller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Dalhatu Abubakar, described the arrest as yet another milestone of the Command.

According to him, a breakdown of the intercepted currencies, which were concealed in cartons of clothing, included $420,900, 3,946,500 CFA Francs (XOF), 224,000 CFA Francs (XAF), and £5,825.

He explained that the suspect, with a Ghanaian passport G5347658, had arrived in the country from Saudi Arabia onboard Ethiopian Airlines at about 12:15 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025.

“On arrival, the suspect, like other passengers, was duly reminded of his obligation to declare any foreign currency or negotiable instrument exceeding $10,000 in his possession, but he declined to do so,” he stated.

“But acting based on intelligence, the suspect and his luggage were flagged for further search by our ever-vigilant officers on duty. Upon search of the passenger’s luggage, the currencies were found in his luggage,” he stated.

The Comptroller lauded his officers and the robust collaboration that existed among the relevant security agencies in the state and prayed that it continued.

Daily Sun reports that the exhibits and the suspect were eventually handed over to the EFCC, who were led by their Zonal Director to the occasion.
