The Nigeria Customs Service (NSC), Kano /Jigawa Area Command has impounded 20 exotic cars that were being imported to the country through the land borders.

The Area Controller of the Service, Comptroller, Alhaji Nazir Ahmed, said the used exotic cars would remain in their custody until the owners presented evidence of payment of their customs duties.

The controller, who was speaking during a press briefing in Kano on Thursday said that they also seized over1,500 bags of rice whose DPN value was estimated at N33,579 , 000.00, adding that 20 vehicles used as means of conveying them were arrested.

He said that it was saddening that Nigerians still bring in rice into the country despite the fact that locally-produced rice was good enough, if not better than the foreign rice.

Other items that were impounded, according to him, included 260 Jerry cans of foreign vegetable oil and 25 bags of foreign sugar (50kg each).

The Customs boss disclosed that the seizures were made in Miltara, Gumel, Bello Road, Katsina, Daura Road. Achilafiya , Babura , Maigatari  and Zaria Road which are all located in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.

He directed his officers along the international border posts to intently search all cars and vehicles coming into the country, cautioning that daily, smugglers were devising new tricks and tactics to escape arrest.
