Years ago, customized fabrics were not acceptable on the fashion scene except for people who were members of clubs, associations or family members.
Today the story is different as it has become fashionable to see customised silk adire being used to make statement clothing that have designer brand names or the names of a loved one. These customised silk adore look amazing and grand when used to make masterpiece ready-to-wear outfits and even handbags crafted in same fabric.
Amina Ladidi Suleiman, a fashion designer, is one designer that is mainstreaming this fashion signature with crystal rhinestones, hand beadings and lace.
“At the last 2m_Design Fashion Show in Dakar, Senegal, held last year, these outfits were the cynosure of all eyes, especially the customized fabric that was inscribed with the expression, OMO9ja. African countries love Nigerian fabrics. This has been our experience in all the fashion shows we had,” Suleiman said.
