The President, Patriotic Elders Forum, Bature Abdul Aziz, has appealed to Nigerians to exercise restraint in debating the authenticity or otherwise of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chigago State University certificate.
A statement signed by the President and made available to newsmen in Kano on Thursday expressed grave concern over the harsh war of words between pro and anti- Tinubu’s supporters on the subject matter, saying their utterances were denting Nigeria’s global image.
He believed that no matter the circumstance, President Tinubu was still Nigeria’s President and directly attacking his integrity was the equivalent of attacking the integrity of the whole of Nigeria.
He counseled that rather than bring forth anything new and progressive, the whole certificate saga was gradually eliciting deep seated tribal and regional sentiments.
“We need to treat this matter with utmost care and respect to the very person we are talking about, who is still the President of Nigeria. It will be good if the court was allowed to do its job, without this kind of public pressure or prosecution,” he emphasized.
He also tasked the media to always weigh the implications of their reportages before going to press while appealing to them to publish only such information that would promote peace, understanding, love and inter- regional harmony in Nigeria.
