Hydrogen Payment Services Company Limited has expanded its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts with an employee-led blood donation campaign aimed at supporting healthcare delivery in Lagos and strengthening the state’s blood reserves.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS) and Gbagada General Hospital, brought together employees of the payments infrastructure company to voluntarily donate blood for patients requiring emergency medical care.

The exercise, which extended activities marking this year’s World Blood Donor Day themed, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives,” is expected to support critical healthcare services, including emergency treatment, surgeries, maternal care, sickle cell management and assistance for accident victims.

Medical personnel from the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service and Gbagada General Hospital supervised the donation exercise and educated participants on the importance of regular voluntary blood donation. They also addressed common misconceptions surrounding blood donation and stressed the need for a steady pool of voluntary donors to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply.

Senior Medical Practitioner with the Lagos State Government, Dr. Folashade Tawak, praised the company for mobilising its workforce in support of public healthcare.

“Voluntary blood donation remains one of the most impactful ways individuals can contribute to saving lives. We commend Hydrogen for driving this initiative and encouraging active employee participation. Efforts like this are critical to sustaining the blood reserves needed for patients in urgent need,” she said.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Hydrogen, Fiyinfoluwa Olorunsola, said the programme aligns with the company’s commitment to creating value beyond its core payment infrastructure business.

“At Hydrogen, our responsibility goes beyond building payment infrastructure. We are committed to making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. This drive brings our people together around a cause that directly saves lives, and I am proud of the culture we are building, defined by purpose, compassion, and service,” she said.

Also speaking, the company’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Obinna Ojekwe, said the initiative reflected Hydrogen’s people-centred approach to corporate responsibility.

“While we enable the seamless movement of value every day, this initiative allowed us to give something more personal. Knowing that a simple act can save lives makes this deeply meaningful, and it reflects the kind of organisation we are proud to be part of,” he said.

Hydrogen said the blood donation campaign forms part of its broader 2026 employee volunteering and CSR programme, with additional community-focused initiatives planned during the year.

The company noted that the initiative reinforces its strategy of combining business growth with social impact by encouraging employees to actively contribute to causes that improve lives beyond the financial services sector.

Hydrogen Payment Services Company Limited provides payments infrastructure that enables financial institutions and large organisations across Africa to process, move and settle payments efficiently, supporting seamless and secure financial transactions across the continent.
