CSR: Dangote Cement donates furniture, learning materials to Lagos school

Lagos

Dangote Cement Plc has donated classroom furniture and learning materials to Ladi-Lak Nursery and Primary School in Apapa, Lagos, as part of efforts to improve learning conditions in its host community.

The donation, carried out through the company’s Clinker Terminal under its school support programme, included chairs, tables, school bags and other educational materials for pupils and teachers.

The company said the intervention was part of its wider social investment programme, which focuses on education, healthcare, infrastructure development and economic empowerment in communities where it operates.

Speaking during the presentation, Group Head of Social Performance, Dangote Cement, Wakeel Olayiwola, said the company’s community support programmes were aimed at complementing government efforts in key areas of development.

He said Dangote’s investments in host communities went beyond its manufacturing operations, noting that education remained a major area of focus because of its importance to the future of children and communities.

“At Dangote, we continuously seek opportunities to support education, healthcare, infrastructure development and economic empowerment. These interventions reflect our belief that thriving communities are essential to sustainable growth,” Olayiwola said.

He urged the pupils to take their education seriously and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

Olayiwola also encouraged them to remain focused, work hard and pursue their aspirations, stressing that education was an important tool for personal development and future success.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Head Teacher of Ladi-Lak Nursery and Primary School, Mrs Ayoku Fatima Adenike, thanked Dangote Cement for responding to the school’s request for assistance.

She said the donation had generated excitement among pupils and teachers, while improving facilities available for teaching and learning.

“We are sincerely grateful to Dangote Cement for this kind gesture. What once seemed like a dream has become a reality today. This support demonstrates the company’s commitment to education and the well-being of our children,” Adenike said.

She said the furniture and educational materials would improve classroom comfort and make learning more conducive for pupils.

The head teacher also appealed to the company to sustain its partnership with the school and support it in addressing other areas of need.

Also speaking, Head of Clinker Exports and Transport, Engineer Boluwarin Aladeniyi, described the donation as an investment in the future of the pupils.

He urged the children to remain disciplined, respect their teachers and parents and work hard to achieve academic success.

“The facilities being presented today are more than physical assets. They are a reminder that organisations and individuals believe in your abilities and are committed to helping you succeed,” Aladeniyi said.

He formally handed over the materials and furniture to the school management and urged the authorities to ensure that the items were properly maintained and used for the benefit of present and future pupils.

Aladeniyi said the intervention provided another opportunity for Dangote Cement to support education at the grassroots and strengthen its relationship with communities around its operations.

The company said the school support programme formed part of its broader community development efforts, through which it provides assistance in education and other areas considered important to the welfare of host communities.

The intervention at Ladi-Lak Nursery and Primary School is expected to provide pupils with improved classroom facilities and educational materials while supporting teachers in their work.

The company said it would continue to identify opportunities to support communities around its operations through programmes focused on education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic empowerment.
