The Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS), Nigeria’s capital market infrastructure, will on Tuesday, October 15, 2025, host its second stakeholder webinar on the transition to the T+2 settlement cycle.
Themed “Trade Associations Roundtable: Ensuring Stakeholder Readiness for T+2 Settlement,” the virtual event forms part of CSCS’s ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders and ensure a seamless transition from the current T+3 settlement system to T+2 in line with international best practices.
The CSCS serves as the central depository for equities, bonds, commercial papers, mutual funds, and other instruments traded in the Nigerian capital market.
According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CSCS Plc, Haruna Jalo-Waziri, the move to a shorter settlement cycle represented more than a compliance requirement but a collective milestone for the Nigerian capital market. “The transition to T+2 settlement is not just a regulatory milestone, it represents a collective achievement for our market. At CSCS, we recognize that the success of this transition depends on shared understanding and readiness across all stakeholder groups. This second webinar is part of our commitment to continuous engagement, ensuring that every participant in the value chain is equipped and aligned for a smooth and efficient implementation,” Jalo-Waziri stated.
The event will feature remarks from key industry leaders, including the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Emomotimi Agama; the Chairman of CSCS Plc, Temi Popoola; and the CSCS Chief Executive Officer, Haruna Jalo-Waziri.
Also expected are representatives of major trade associations who will discuss industry preparedness and implementation strategies. Confirmed speakers include Samuel Onukwue, Chairman, Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON); Babatunde Majiyagbe, President, Association of Asset Custodians of Nigeria (AACN); and Seyi Owoturo, President and Chairman of Council, Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR).
The session will feature a question-and-answer segment to enable participants to engage directly with market leaders on operational and procedural matters related to the T+2 transition.
CSCS said the webinar builds on the success of the first session held earlier in the year, which focused on regulatory alignment and the readiness of market infrastructure for the shortened settlement cycle.
Jalo-Waziri stated that through such engagements, CSCS continued to promote market efficiency, investor confidence, and adherence to global operational standards. The initiative also underscores its leadership role in supporting the modernization of Nigeria’s capital market.
