Crown Takaful Insurance Limited has approved the distribution of N100.9 million in surplus to its participants, marking what the company described as a major milestone for Nigeria’s ethical insurance industry.
The payout, approved by the company’s board following regulatory clearance from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), comes within the firm’s first year of operations and reflects the core Takaful principle of returning excess funds to participants after claims, re-Takaful expenses and reserves have been settled.
Under the Takaful insurance model, participants contribute to a common pool to cover risks, while any surplus remaining at the end of the financial period is shared among them.
Commenting on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Crown Takaful Insurance, Nasir Abubakar Song, said the approval demonstrated the company’s commitment to fairness, transparency and mutual benefit.
“This approval is not just a regulatory milestone—it is a promise kept. When our participants entrusted us with their contributions, they did so believing in a system grounded in fairness, transparency, and mutual benefit. To achieve this within our first year of operation is a testament to the dedication of our team, the confidence of our participants, and the grace of Allah.

“Receiving regulatory approval to distribute surplus is our most direct and tangible way of honoring that trust. We are proud to be among the pioneers delivering the true promise of Takaful to Nigerians,” Song said.
The company said the surplus distribution for the 2024 financial year underscores its commitment to one of the defining features of Takaful insurance, where participants benefit from shared financial outcomes in addition to risk protection.
Licensed by NAICOM in 2024, Crown Takaful said it recorded approximately N1.935 billion in gross contributions during its first year of operations.
The insurer added that it remains focused on expanding access to ethical insurance solutions for individuals, families and businesses through transparent and inclusive financial protection services.
