Crown Elite Sports 10th-year anniversary celebration was drawn to a close with an Awards Night where basketball players, coaches and corporate organisations were accorded recognitions of excellence for their individual and corporate contributions to the growth and development of the game of Basketball.
An exhibition game between Ebun Comets and Raptors basketball marked the first day in a keenly contested match that ended in favour of Coach Ayodele Bakare tutored side 48-49.
Day 2 was an All star contest between a star studded selected players from the Oceanic & Sahel Conferences for male and female basketball players respectively. The Oceanic Conference female side coached by Coach Taye Adeniyi went home with the coveted Trophy and N50,000 per player as the prize money after defeating their Sahel counterparts with a narrow margin of 45- 44 points.
Nkem Akariaye Captain of the Sahel and Favour Essien of Oceanic Conference were the highest scorers while the Male All-Star contest ended also in favour of the Oceanic Conference with results of 78 – 69. With Odunfa Konyinsola of the Oceanic Conference was the highest scorer with 25 points as against his closest rival Francis Nworaka from the Sahel Conference followed up with 15 points.
The award for the Uprising Coach of the Year went to coach Tony Nelson of Bayelsa Strong Basketball while the Coach of the Year Award female went Taye Adeniyi of First Bank Basketball Club.
Oliver Babatunde Johnson of ABU Zaria won the Iconic coach award of the Year while the Iconic Team Manager of the Year went to Coach Ayodele Bakare.
Zenith Bank, Total Energies and MFM bagged Recognition Awards for Excellence.
