Customers seeking to swap their old naira notes have besieged the office of the Central Bank of Nigeria, in Makurdi.
Our correspondent, who visited the office on Thursday, could not gain entrance into the bank as a mammoth crowd blocked the gate United Bank of Africa branch office, waiting to be attended to.
The crowd also caused traffic in front of the banks as most customers blocked the ways with their vehicles forcing some motorists to use alternative routes.
In front of CBN office, some of the customers were seem sitting on the floor while those non queue were murmuring and lamenting as it seems the line was not moving.
Some of the customers who spoke to our correspondent decried the laid down procedures by the CBN before depositing the old naira notes.
One of the customers, James Terkimbir, said he had spent several hours on the queue and was yet to be attended to.
“I came here since morning and as you can see, the crowd is too much. When I came, I met many people here and they gave us numbers. Up till now we are still here after filling and printing out the forms they gave before we can deposit our old naira notes.
“They have been calling the numbers but its very slow,” he complained
Another resident, Mary Allagh acknowledged the efforts of the bank officials saying they have started and if they maintain the line and the numbers, we will all be attended to.
“The officials are actually attending to people but the problem is that it is not fast enough considering the crowd here. But if they maintain the names, we will leave be attended to. Though I don’t think they can attend to everyone today.”
The bank officials could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing this report.
