Odukpani Local Government Area has emerged winner in the maiden edition of the Suki Unity Cup following a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Akamkpa in a thrilling grand finale.
The Suki Unity Cup, sponsored by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, is a premier football competition for teams from the seven local government areas that make up the Southern Senatorial District in Cross River State.
The historic final, played at the Saint Patrick’s College Football Mini Stadium, Ikot Ansa, Calabar, was witnessed by a large crowd and graced by the lawmaker representing the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.
The Senator announced an upward review of the prize money, increasing the winners’ reward from ₦2 million to ₦3 million, the first runners-up from ₦1 million to ₦2 million, and the second runners-up from ₦500,000 to ₦1 million.
Biase had edged past Bakassi on penalties after a 1–1 draw in regulation time to clinch third place.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong called for greater inclusion and welcomed women’s participation in the 2026 edition.
He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the Suki Unity Cup as an annual tournament for youth development and unity across Cross River South.
Medals were presented to the champions, first and second runners-up, alongside cash awards for outstanding individual performances, including Most Valuable Player and Highest Goal Scorer.
