The Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has raided a scrap dump in Calabar and recovered multi million naira items stolen from the KalaChika Factory, a vital asset of the Cross River State  government.

Acting on credible intelligence, the  Anti-Vandal Unit of the command  raided the  scrap dump site located in Abasi Obori, Ikot Ishie area of Calabar.

The operation led to the arrest of eleven suspects and recovery of a large quantity of galvanized metals, confirmed to have been vandalized from the KalaChika Chicken Factory.

The recovered materials were found strategically stored at the dump site, undergoing preparations for onward transportation out of Cross River State to an undisclosed destination.

Orok kinini-Iyeme, the Public Relations Officer of the command in a statement said  arrest comes barely 72 hours after the State Commandant, Okarazu C.E., warned that the Command’s intelligence network had shifted its focus to include the “final destinations and end-users” of vandalized assets.

“We told the public that we would not just go after the vandals, but also the sites and the patrons who provide a market for these stolen goods.

“The raid at Abasi Obori Ikot Ishie is a clear message: there is no hiding place for those who profit from the destruction of our state’s infrastructure.”

She added that preliminary investigations suggest a syndicate specialized in stripping government-owned factories and utilities of valuable metals for sale to external buyers.

The Command, she said is currently working to trace the entire value chain of this criminal enterprise to ensure that everyone involved, from the looters to the transporters and the final buyers, faces the full weight of the law.
