Launches manhunt for others
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River State Command, has smashed a syndicate allegedly involved in the vandalisation of telecommunications infrastructure in Odukpani Local Government Area.
Two suspects have been arrested and a major mast component recovered in a three-day operation targeting Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).
The command said the breakthrough began on 15 July 2026 with the arrest of 23-year-old Bassey Inyang for allegedly attempting to vandalise an ATC Base Transceiver Station, Site No. 630363 – CRO 165, at Odukpani Junction.
During interrogation, Inyang allegedly confessed to stripping the site and selling the parts to a scrap dealer.
Acting on the lead, State Commandant CC Okarazu Chima deployed a joint team of intelligence, CNII and Odukpani Division operatives.
On 18 July 2026, the team raided the alleged receiver’s enclave at Odukpani Flyover and arrested 24-year-old Abdulraman Suleiman, alias “Fulani”, who was described as the syndicate’s primary receiver.

A search of his premises yielded a black metal radio mounting frame measuring 4 ft 2 in by 4 ft 11 in, which was confirmed by ATC as part of the vandalised facility.
Suleiman admitted buying the items on two occasions but claimed ignorance of their source, a claim the command rejected.
“Vandals operate because there is a ready market. If you are caught buying telecom batteries, cables, or mounting frames without authorized sources, you will be treated as an economic saboteur. We are coming for your network,” Commandant Okarazu warned.
The command said a manhunt is ongoing for two other fleeing members, including an alleged receiver identified as Mr Abdul of Jadawa and an alleged financier identified as Mr Saleh.
Both suspects in custody are being processed and will be charged in court. ATC is also conducting a valuation of the recovered equipment.
