No fewer than 2,000 youths across the three senatorial districts of Cross River State will benefit from a free Oil and Gas training programme worth N700 million sponsored by the Cross River State Government.
The programme is organized by the government in collaboration with Research Gateway Professional Institute, RGPI.
Briefing journalists after the flag-off, the Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Governor, Office of the Chief of Staff, Dunamis Archibong, said the initiative was aimed at equipping young people with relevant industry skills to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.
“The training is fully sponsored and free for beneficiaries. It is an investment in human capital and the future of the state and is being implemented across the three senatorial districts.
” Participants will be exposed to Tank Farm Operations, Health Safety and Environment, Fire Prevention, Pipeline Maintenance, Oil and Gas Metering, Emergency Response and other relevant industry practices”, Archibong said.
He charged beneficiaries to look beyond certification and use the skills to position themselves for opportunities in the oil and gas value chain, while commending Governor Bassey Otu for prioritising youth empowerment.
Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, Ukpong Umoh, said the programme was designed to prepare youths to be competent participants, not just job seekers.
Director of RGPI, ThankGod Arong, said each beneficiary received a fully paid scholarship by the state government and the training comes with a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certification.
