The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended an elderly suspect with 128 live cartridges, four locally fabricated firearms, and one English double-barrel gun.
State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Irene Ugbo, who disclosed this in a statement in Calabar, said the suspect has been taken in for questioning.
“In the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 01:43 hrs, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ikom Unit, acting on credible intelligence, executed a search warrant in the premises of one Ewa Eben, aged 61, of Abu Emeh village, in Boki Local Government Area of the state.
“The operation led to the recovery of one (1) English double-barrel gun, four (4) locally fabricated firearms, a machete, and one hundred and twenty-eight (128) live cartridges.

“The suspect has confessed to both ownership and possession of the recovered prohibited items; he has been taken into custody as investigations continue,” she said.
She said the state police commissioner, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, is impressed with the gallant efforts of the RRS team and will always give them necessary support in their operations.
She added that the command is unwavering in its commitment to reducing the circulation and proliferation of arms across the state.
The command also solicited timely and credible information from the public that can assist crime prevention, control, and reducing the prevalence of illegal arms and ammunition within the state.
