Plateau State Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused a former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, of orchestrating division in the party by creating a caretaker committee.
The party said that such committee didn’t exist as the state chapter has a validly elected
State Working Committee, led by the Chairman, Dung Dawan Pam and Brig. Gen. John Sura as the candidate for the 2027 governorship elections in Plateau state.
Addressing the press in Jos on Wednesday, Chairman, Dung Dawam Pam, accused Dalung and his group of deliberately causing confusion in the party.
“We are aware of a group parading themselves as a caretaker committee allegedly sponsored by the former Minister, Hon. Solomon Dalung.
“The Plateau State Chapter wishes to state categorically that such a group has no constitutional recognition within the structures of the African Democratic Congress in Plateau State.
“Their activities do not represent the interest of our party. From all indications, they have consistently acted in ways capable of weakening the party and advancing the interests of our political opponents.
“We therefore regard them as political hirelings whose actions are inconsistent with the objectives and aspirations of the African Democratic Congress.”
The chairman equally said that the party had credible information that certain individuals had been strategically planted by the ruling All Progressives Congress to infiltrate the party and sow seeds of division.
While describing such tactics as not uncommon in politics, the party assured its members that the leadership of the party remained vigilant and would do all within its power to truncate the antics of fifth columnists.
The chairman warned that appropriate constitutional and disciplinary measures would be taken against anyone found working against the collective interest of the party.
The party equally condemned the abusive and disrespectful comments recently made on social media by Dalung, against one of the respected national leaders of our party, Baba Kashim Imam.
While dissociating the party from those unfortunate remarks, the party said that they didn’t reflect the values, culture, or position of the African Democratic Congress in Plateau State. ”
The chairman reflected on the state chapter’s strategic engagement with the national leadership where the SWC successfully defended the outcome of the governorship primary election.
The chairman said, “During our visit, we held productive meetings with the National Chairman, Senator David Mark, the Deputy National Chairman, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, and other respected national stakeholders, including Baba Kashim Imam, Senator Dino Melaye, Hajiya Naja’atu, and the pioneer National Chairman of the party, Chief Ralph Nwosu.
“We also paid a condolence visit to the running mate of our presidential candidate, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, before concluding our engagements with our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, at his Abuja residence.
“These engagements reaffirmed the commitment of the national leadership to justice, internal democracy, and respect for due process.
The chairman reiterated the commitment of the state working committee to keep the party structure in tact ahead of the 2027 general elections.
